Acne is a skin condition common among adolescents and adults. Many factors contribute to the development of acne, including food. But instead of fresh fruits efficacious to ward off acne.

Acne usually develops in areas that contain large amounts of oil glands, such as the neck, chest, shoulders and face, according to MayoClinic. The main cause of acne is hormonal changes. Also, acne can be formed due to excess production of sebum (oil) or a buildup of bacteria on the skin.

Some foods are believed to trigger the growth of acne and some other foods just the opposite may help reduce the symptoms of acne, including fruits. Fruits provide antioxidants that can support the body's ability to fight and cure diseases. Acne medications known as retinoids are also derived from vitamin A, which is an antioxidant that supports healthy tissue and skin repair.


In addition, fresh fruits are also low glycemic, meaning it has a mild effect on blood sugar. Lowering the glycemic impact of diet may also help reduce the symptoms of acne. Some fruits that are effective to reduce acne, as reported by Livestrong, Tuesday (07/02/2012), among others, papaya, apricots, melons and mangoes.

Fruits rich in vitamin C (another antioxidant that can improve the health of the skin) also helps reduce acne, such as citrus fruits, kiwi, strawberries and tomatoes. Other foods rich in antioxidants and low glycemic include whole grains, like oats, brown rice and corn, beans and grains.

Healthy fats in nuts, seeds and cold-water fish, like salmon, can also help reduce acne inflammation and other effects, according to the report 'Skin Therapy Letter' published in 2010.
